Certainly I didn't know there was truly a link between lack of nutrients and hyperactive kids but I knew I needed to eat real food. Thankfully my body craved it...OK and chocolate. And for many months I barely kept anything down except salad and fruit. Weird. I wonder if my body knew what it needed and therefore craved it.
But certainly the big corporation had to know that you can't seriously change the food a nation eats to exist without some consequences. What I am getting at is: who should be responsible for the wave of kids who have trouble functioning because of hyperactivity? Who should be accountable for the millions of dollars spent on
- medicating these kids to control (don't condone just reporting)
- the schools who have to deal with disruptive kids(some schools can handle them quite well but for the most part they operate outside the "normal" gov't mandated testing centers aka schools)
- counseling these kids, who know they are 'different'
- and their families who feel like complete failures for medicating them
Or the government? For allowing this sort of 'food' to even be out there without some sort of warning like "we don't know know what diets low in nutrtional value can do to your body" or take it one step farther out there. Schools. Society. Our nation. The health of our nation has been put at risk because...why? The next generation coming up will suffer because of the 'foods' we have allowed to exist as foods.
When you eat an organic carrot you know that:
- it has NOT been sprayed with a chemical that can potentially cause harm to you(this is a good thing)
- they have for all intents and purpose been a food for humans for centuries(not true for deep fried corn chips covered in neuro toxins)and will probably not harm you, we know this because for the last 600 years we have been eating carrots and no one has died from eating them-not true for new fangled food stuffs and I'm sorry but we THINK they MIGHT not kill you is just not good enough for me
- it provides you with good honest nutritional value because it is a simple food, it has not been shredded, cooked, partially re-hydrated, deep fried, coated with chili and served in a tote bag for fun!
I do. When for the first time ex-lax is marketed to kids because they don't eat enough vegetables to get fiber, I care. They learn from us.
For me it's a no brainer, mega food corporations, I'm watching you. Take your 'food stuff', your million dollar advertising budgets, your lobbyists and take a hike. Give me real food, for me, my kids, my country! You're killing us here.
Peace and Love-

I love you.
That is all.
I totally agree!
I have the book for you, but you may have to wait in line, we are making all of our family read it too... "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer... I am at the part where he is describing influenza as a mostly bird born illness... anyway... This is what I was reading this morning just before I read your post.
Sorry Laura, I just don't buy into this arguement. I agree that eating well is the goal for all pregnant women, however, generations upon generations have produced beautiful children on average diets.
P.S. "Mega Food Corporations" are no more liable for a bad diet than the family that prepares junk food at home. We all do it.
I don't know Coleen I don't think you can change a nations food choices and expect the same healthy result from 'food stuffs'--I don't buy that-
This is a huge threat to Us all. Keep reporting what is needed. Maybe someone will change or rethink what they are doing. If you redirect or change one person's thinking you are accomplishing much...
