Then when we went to San Francisco 2 years ago, I finally had a chance to try Ethiopian food. And yum, hands down delicious, not my favorite but enjoyable nonetheless. The meal consisted of large funky sourdough pancakes called Injera, with various stew like dishes served right on top of them, community style.
I've never been brave enough to actually cook Ethiopian, figuring I would just enjoy it in San Francisco and not ruin it trying to make it at home. My mother in law took another tack. She was in Seattle last week and ran across Amys' Injera, for sale. She bought some injera and cooked up a wicked feast.
She looked up recipes, cooked all day and produced an absolute feast and trashed her kitchen. We had no idea a special dinner was in store for us we just knew we had a dinner invitation. Behold the feast!

You eat with your hands, yeah my kids were hating this, by tearing off small pieces of the injera and scooping up different bites to eat.
What a delicious surprise! My husband was beyond thrilled and we were sent home with vats of leftovers and a package of injera for ourselves. My Mother in Law rocks, whew!
Peace and Love,

I am impressed that your children tried this food. My children would have run for the hills haha. You have a great MIL.
Ok, first off, brava! to your mom-in-law. It is hard to cook Ethiopian food, especially the chicken stews or 'Doro Wot'.
And second, bravos to you and your family on actually eating and enjoying it.
I couldn't help but smile at the sight of the injeras laid out on your tablecloth!!! Man, that must have been a hell of a laundry wash!
Deep Ethiopian
that is so neat to see something new to try..
I'm impressed! My friends and I were just talking about Ethiopian - there ARE lots of restaurants of that cuisine here!
Wow, holy smokes what a feast! I've never tried Ethiopian food, but it looks delicious! I'm sure the boys loved it - eating with your hands!?? haha
We have some pretty fab Ethiopian restaurants here in Van...
Mmmmm my mouth is watering. YUM. I love Ethiopian, and fortunately Chicago has some decent Ethiopian places. I'm impressed that it was home cooked - although I'd never be allowed to do it here given how many dishes would be involved. I feel a need to go on a field trip soon. Did I mention YUM?
