That Time of Year-garden update

It's that time of year again, when being outside is MUCH more important than cooking, cleaning and sleeping. We all seem to get up and head outside as soon as possible and stay out all day, well if it's raining we don't. Instead we catch up on inside stuff like making cookies, playing and maybe cleaning but only under extreme pressure, like company coming for instance. Summer is just too darn short to stay inside cleaning or worrying about it even, guess what? That dog hair in the corner will still be there next week but the warm weather will be gone before I know it. So we embrace our inner pigpens and live outside as much as possible because 8 months of cold weather is just around the corner and I can vacuum then.
On that note I bring you our outside:
old crab apple tree, she provides us with plenty of apple sauce, crisps and hopefully this year juice!

the bees and butterflies love her too

currents in bloom for scones, cookies, jelly and sauces

greenhouse full of tomatoes, peppers, cukes and green beans and a few pumpkins too (we love pie!)

the main garden all planted and watered

little boy gardens with an arbor we made a few weeks ago and the Kamster too

my perennial flower bed, the plants here are very old and come from plants that have been in Alaska for at least 70 years, they have been in this bed for 35 years

our water fall garden area-boys HAD TO HAVE this old waterfall hooked up, HAD TO!! sweet peas will be climbing the nets on either side, unless the neighbor's weed n feed has killed them (ARGH)

whiskey barrels with pumpkins, fava beans and tomatoes

dry river bed waiting for it's plants

fresh green beans, first of the season! from plants in our dining room

basil! for pesto!! a lifesaver in the winter for flavor

And I have 2 more wooden garden beds, one planted, one waiting to be filled and planted. Ahhh almost done then the fun begins, WEEDING!

There are fires burning everywhere up here and they have lent the strange orange light to my photos. I really like the light but it's also kind of eerie. Check out our view cloaked in smoke.

This week I pledge to cook and blog, and plant, oh and volunteer at camp and at our food co-op, oh and speak at the school board meeting. Erm, check that, I plan to breathe, hows that?

Peace and Love,

I've always wanted to grow pumpkins but I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I'm envious of your garden.
