AND it smells fabulous. Somewhere between childhood nights and sleepovers at my Grandmas, it smells free and wild. Sometimes it almost brings tears to my eyes it smells so good. Oh and the towels, crispy melting to softness and again the heavenly smell. I love to hang laundry out to dry.
What I don't love? Laundry left in pile in the corner right next to the hamper. But I do love the answer, "sorry I don't pick any one's laundry off the floor and wash it" and this gem "you're out of underwear? were they in the hamper? oh...."
And red wax peelings from mini cheeses. Those can really stain some clothes. I highly recommend having your kids empty their pockets before depositing them in the hamper. I should really listen to this thought on laundry, I rarely look in pockets and therefore consistently find exploded tissues, rocks that might be meteors and wet one dollar bills from allowance day. I have even been known to wash a cell phone, ONCE and it was not mine. (mine is 4 years old, I refuse to buy a new one until this one dies, apparently it has signed a deal with the devil to live forever) Hmmmmm perhaps it would be best to sort and wash laundry according to who owns it, then maybe the wax stains will stay on their clothes, but dang then I'm out of the running for their allowance.
I love love love Monday night because after the MLO (Major Laundry Offensive) we don't do laundry for a week. Everything is washed, dried and put away and sometimes I even have fresh cool sheets to slide between. The linen closet is full, napkin basket is topped off and I have hopefully put all my clothes in the hamper so I'll have socks and underwear for a week.
Peace and Love,

am I the only evil mother who makes kids do their own laundry, family towels, and other 'community' laundry ? T1 does his own, T2 is learning but requires supervision.
I would love to have an outdoor clothes line. We live in a townhouse so, that just isn't possible.
I must confess, I used to be really good about picking two days a week and doing the laundry and I loved it! I have some how fallen off track. I really need to get back to it. I makes me feel in control. LOL
And there is nothing better than climbing into freshly laundered sheets!
I never would have thought about that red wax. My kids love that cheese and luckily that hasn't happened to me yet.
Do you use cloth napkins? I've been wanting to get into the habit, but I'm so afraid I won't be able to keep up with it. How many do you have if you only do laundry once a week?
I just love my clothes line. Laundry days around here are Tues and Friday. Have been for years and my type A brain loves that I have a schedule for that.
you know Lee we bought dish rags in packs of twelve I think we bought 3 total. We do wash those midway through the week but it's such a small load I barely consider it "real" laundry :) DO IT make the switch!! I love it and when they are trashed I I make them into house rags. I have completely gotten off paper towels-we were addicted.
Steph-you know the wax wouldn't be a probelm if they all did their own.....hmmmm plotting :D
Diann-fresh sheets are righteous!!
There is nothing like the freshness of clothes/laundry dried outside on a line. I so wish I could do that ... but it ain't gonna happen here! LOL
I'm popping in to say hi on this post - because, although I really loved reading your post about Putting Food By, I'm not really much of a canning/preserving girl. If I had a garden, I'd be all over it though. It looks like a wonderful resource.
I've been MIA because its so damn hot in the city I can't even think. 103 degrees here yesterday and the room where my computer lives has no a/c. Yuck!
I stopped doing laundry when I got tired of walking on top of the clothes in my son's room. I am the mean mother who didn't wash even my son's dirty track uniform, the night before a meet because if he wasn't worried about it, neither was I. I use cloth napkins, and we found that sometimes we share one napkin rather than mess up four different one. Most nights, you only use a small corner anyway. Chicken leg night, we each get our own.
I love line drying, although I do mine indoors. That whole suburbs thing. And ummm thanks to you, I just remembered that I have a load of darks I need to go get out of the laundry before it starts to moulder. Ick!
