Thrifted Sunday

I've been in a mood lately. The mood to buy pottery, china, glass and ceramic pieces to replace all the plastic that inhabits our lives. That's NOT the easy task I thought it would be when I started out. We are pretty heavily dependent on plastic and just moving from disposable food storage containers to pyrex and corningware and glass jars was a huge investment of time and money. I have been hunting for a few months now and I think we are almost done with the big replacement.

This has left me somewhat bereft in the thrifting department, I still gravitate to the housewares section almost first and have a hard time leaving empty handed. I will probably always buy pyrex when I see it but then I see all these other lovely objects that I just don't need. But I like them. DILEMMA.

Behold the treasures-

You should see what I left behind, Ok that's a lie I left nothing behind.

Happy Independence Day.

love those dinner trays
perfect for eating on laps
really, what great finds.

bam!

thanks so much for stopping by the cape on the corner, and for your comment on my first attempt at stripping paint off wood! normally i would be doing things your way, believe me, but through blogging i am trying to see things not as they are, but what they can become or what i can make them. that sounds so...enlightened or something, lol.

Gosh, I just ADORE those trays with the girls. Do they have a mark on the bottom? I'd love to know who makes them.

yes actually they are Figgjo and I believe the pattern to be Torskefiske, close up it's a fisherman and his wife.

What fun finds! I have quite a few pieces of the little plate (picture right above the tv trays). They are so fun and retro!

The gravy boat is so pretty. Looks like you had a fruitful shopping trip.

Well that makes sense! I just bought my first piece of Figgjo this weekend (Handanger Dancers). I have a new thing to collect now. :) Thanks!

Very cute finds - and not so very large. I know, even those small treasures take up room, but there are many worse habits to have.
Since blogging I now look at far more dishes and glassware than ever before in my life.

I hear you on the housewares. I'm trying to downsize some things in our kitchen this summer and try to justify the reason for another Pyrex bowl in my cupboard. :) You found some wonderful treasures.

lol "i left nothing behind!"... i share your dilemma. i think all us thrifty folk just need to get together and open a store. but then, we'd probably end up buying each other's stuff! ;)

We like gravy a lot, so I would never pass up a gravy boat - and I love the bowl!
