So you want to start canning (giveaway post)

And I want to help! The fine folks at CSN asked if I wanted to host another giveaway and how could I resist. But this time instead of giving away Le Creuset like I decided to giveaway a canning set. Considerably LESS FLASHY than Le Creuset but oh so useful! At CSN you can find dinnerware sets
to Le Creuset and just about anything else you could want. So the starter set I am giving away looks a little something like this:

Graniteware 9 Piece Canner Set

It comes with a big canning pot-holds 7 quart jars! A rack to hold those 7 jars in the pot, a strainer/colander, TONGS(very important!) two sets of them, a jar gripper thingy, a magnetic wand to fish lids out of hot water with and the all important mega funnel for pouring boiling hot sugar and fruit mixtures in to sterilized jars. I picked this out last week and one lucky ducky reader will be on their way to eating their harvest through the winter.

But then I discovered at a critical point in my jelly making season I was OUT OF PECTIN. Not good! I quickly ordered more and dropped them a note telling them it was critical and I was in DIRE need of good pectin. The wonderful Workstead Industries that sells Pomona Pectin understood my predicament and I had my pectin in 4 days. That is some customer service, just one of the MANY reasons I love Pomona Pectin. The others can be found here and here and here. Basically I love their pectin because you don't have to use the store bought pectin that requires you to use 5 cups of juice and 9 cups of sugar. Yes you read that right almost double the amount of sugar to juice. cough. I like that you can add as much or as little sweetener as you like. They encourage you to play around and make up your own recipes. And you can use honey or any other kind of sweet stuff you want. Yep they rock. I asked if they wanted to add a box of pectin to my canning set up giveaway and you know what? They sent me a box to share with you!
I buy mine in 1/2 pound packs
this is a good start for a normal person

That's a 9 piece canning set and a box of pectin that makes 2-4 batches of jelly or jam. Because I love you that's why!

So pop on over to Pomona Pectin and tell me what jelly or jam you'd be make first with your new canning set up from CSN, that's entry number one, just leave a comment. You can earn additional entries by:
  • adding me to your blog roll-leave a separate comment
  • following me-leave a separate comment
  • participate in next Monday's Just Another Meatless Monday-leave a separate comment
This giveaway will end next Monday night at midnight Alaska time! Winner should be announced Tuesday morning unless of course the light is bad!

If you are local come on down to NonEssentials in Palmer tonight, that is Thursday September 9th 6-8pm! They are having a little thingy thing with Neal's Yard Remedies  NYR, yeah I could use a little radiance especially with BlogHer Food coming up. I'm going to need a WHOLE load of help, ha! Organic and natural skin care for beautiful glowing skin, I could REALLY use some of that, couldn't you? That's NonEssentials in Palmer with Neal's Yard Remedies NYR, tonight be there or be square!

Peace and Love--

Love orange marmalade, but have never tried making it. The recipe looks so easy, I'm thinking I could actually do it!

Strangely enough, I think there might be real merit in the lunch packing potential of the milk pudding.

Ok, so I have to tell you this. I was laying in bed at some unGodly hour this morning - 5 or 6am thinking about how I never got to learn to can this summer. My grandma was supposed to show me, but she cut back her trip so she was only there like.. 12 hrs. Then my cat knocked my water glass off the nightstand and I had to get up and move furniture and clean all of that. So I was wide awake and turned on the iPod touch to read some and I see your blog post "So you want to start canning" and I was like OMG SHE KNEW!!!

Anyways... I like the sound of the fresh pineapple jam. I've never had any type of pineapple jelly or jam!

I love the look of that pectin...printed out the instructions and will head to Freds in Wasilla and see if they'll carry it.

I'd def make blubarb or rasbarb jam since my freezer is full of those.

Thanks for the new pectin, I had no clue about it.

I would love to learn how to make wine jelly. I made corn relish today but have no idea how to can things (and am a little scared) so it all just ended up in the fridge and freezer!
