The Penny Worthy Project-Rummage Sale Edition

The Penny Worthy Project is my response to tightening our belts. Gas is so expensive, food is too, everything seems to cost more theses days. How are you getting by? Do you sell on Etsy? Ebay? Thrift shop regularly? How are you getting by on less when everything costs more? Are you creating art, sewing or painting to let your soul breathe? I'd love to know! Leave a comment or a link to your blog post to join in and tell the world how you are making it.

The local thrift store have been slowly raising their prices to almost obscene heights. I don't know why but I'm guessing the cost to do business is a bit higher and shows like American Pickers don't help matters much. The thing about thrifting is not that everything is a treasured artifact, quite a bit of it is mundane day to day objects, and that's the fun of of it, you never know. The local thrift stores have started testing all jewelry for gold and diamond content, where is the fun in that? I'm not actively searching for expensive pieces but it's fun to look, I don't want them pointed out to me.
This week I hit up a great rummage sale. The prices were perfect, my kids played with an old Foosball table with a pack of kids while I spent a good long time perusing the tables. I found this beautiful little glass pitcher

which will be featured in my Just Another Meatless Monday post tomorrow.

This great old bag which is either a purse or
 tote, your choice!
Cool thing about this bag though is I have another one just like it that was my grandmother's only it's pink.

I found these two cool candy store jars with wooden lids.
The lids don't quite fit right, the rubber gaskets are wonky, I'll need help figuring them out.

Look at the shape of this old tin, unique isn't it?

I found a ziploc bag of old jewelry, lots of cool clip on earrings and other funky pieces. A DOLLAR!

And the very best find, maybe of the whole year, was this bad boy:

which is what my children now want to call our new-to-us Craftsman Bagger Mower

TEN BUCKS! They normally cost new $289.00, 10 bucks, I tell you I couldn't load it in my truck fast enough. So what will I do with the 279 dollars I saved? Put it in the bank! Actually I'll only be using this for part of my lawn because I do like the quiet of the reel mower and the reel mower doesn't throw rocks or other things out of it. But  still I love the fact that I only spent ten dollars!

So what did you find this week?

Peace and Love--

All our lawn mowers have "issues" so I am using the reel mower as well. I am considering it my exercise time.
Considering the grass is knee high with all the rain and heat recently I can mow 2 feet, stop to clear out the blades, start again.
What I wouldn't give for even a $20 lawn mower!

Cute tote and tin- and I have that glass pitcher. PERFECT for keeping iced mint tea in the fridge in the summer :)

Great score with the lawn mower too. After thrifting, retail just doesn't stand a chance. I'd rather pay $10 than $200+ any day!

Great pattern on the tote. I have four or five of those style bags...very handy.

Lovely finds. Especially love the jug and jars. It's great there was "free" entertainment for your kids whilst you got to shop.

I love shopping yard sales. You are right on the pricing at the thrift stores...too many times I walk in there and think "aren't these stores supposed to be to help out people like myself that don't have much money??"
Recently I did pick up a package of baby shower thank you cards for my daughter for $1.49 and 2 bags of stuffing for myself for $1.49 each--minus my 10% for having the discount card.
I was going to link in my Frugal Friday's with Marsha post but then didn't think it was right for your list since I didn't do any sale shopping. However, I would love it if you would link up your post in my linky.
