If you need any inspiration for skipping the box store crap, you should really watch the 20 minute or so movie called "The Story of Stuff". It will positively change your views on the way we live and why we need to change the course we are on, it certainly solidified my views on where I want to spend my money. Did you know that 99% of stuff bought in big box stores doesn't last past 6 months? It's designed to be consumed and replaced.
Things to do instead of spend money at box mart on Friday:
- sleep in--seriously, if you rush off to work everyday why leap out of bed early another day
- eat leftovers, and more leftovers,
- have another cup of cheap, homemade coffee, that'll save you 5 bucks right there
- engage in a massive all family game of risk or candyland, depends on the age of family members
- have a craft-a-thon invite friends to come over, bring their leftovers and craft the day away
- take a nap
- watch all three Lord of the Rings Movies or Star Wars
- have a snow ball fight
- make cookies with your kids
- start reading a classic out loud to your kids
- put you feet up and be thankful for all the things you have
- cut snowflakes with your kids
- dig around in the cupboards and make something totally unusual
- or better yet let the kids cook
- stay in pajamas all day
- find a place to go sledding
- look up local bazaars for Buy Local Saturday
- learn to knit
- dust off your sewing machine and make something
- eat another turkey sandwich
- build a fort in your living room
- take a long bath
- create your advent wreath, if that fits with your beliefs
- boil the turkey bones for stock, strain and freeze for good soup all winter
- learn to make bread, why not? you got plenty of sandwich makings on hand!
Peace and Love--

I'd totally have a snowball fight, but um...I'm missing a few flakes down here.
No shopping for us, we pretend we're Pilgrims and do the Macarena, just like they did back in day.
Happy Thanksgiving.
I totally agree.
I'm 100% in for Black Friday Black Out and Shop Local Saturday! I plan to sleep in, have left-overs, read a book, and make my advent wreath ... all items on your wonderful list! :)
Wishing you and your family a wonderful, delicious, Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I work for our local Chamber of Commerce so we have been promotiong Shop Small Saturday for a few weeks now - I surely hope people take advantage of it!
I will be sewing the day away. I'm so excited to be able to create some gifts this year...and sell at a very small local craft day. If more and more folks would choose more wisely where to spend their hard-earned dollars, we wouldn't have to even have these discussions.
PS: I think I will also engage my kids in a high-stakes game of Candyland.
I with you!
Oh Laura, i.heart.your.list so, so true. <3, Kate
We did a lot of Numbers 1, 2, 3, 6 and 15, along with some 7, 10 and 20. Hope you had a happy day!
