A Silent Visit

We were just about to eat dinner the other night when my son noticed something weird in a tree outside the dining room window and brought everything to a complete standstill.

Perched in the tree was the biggest owl I have ever seen.

People were sprinting for cameras, bird books, binoculars and little brothers still in the tub to come and see what it was.

He flew to a smaller tree and bent the top way down.

As much as we were watching it I felt like it was watching us, to make sure we were a safe house to be around. We tried to hold our tongues and stand still while simultaneously looking him up in the bird book and watching his every move.

Then he landed on our project car and moved to a spot int he snow where we assume he caught something.

Turns out it's a Great Grey Owl and beautiful to watch.

He retreated to another tree and something fell to the ground. We ate our dinner and walked around the house following him to all the windows so we could see him. He finally left and we ventured out to see where he had landed. And to see what fell.

We found an owl wing print.

We almost missed what fell....ALMOST. This is what we found.

A soft warm owl pellet. When it gets hard and dry we'll pull it apart and see what's in it, we could see a few bones and teeth to start with.

Just another day in paradise.

Peace and Love--

Beautiful and exciting... We hear a hoot owl every afternoon but I have yet to see it. You have a beautiful backyard with the snow covered mountians and blue sky.

And here, we have to buy our owl pellets. Lucky you, getting to watch him for so long!
